8/20 - Warsaw, Poland
Waking up late on a Saturday had Lauren and I craving brunch. An Polish person who follows us on Instagram had sent us a direct message a couple days earlier with a list of restaurants to try out and so we decided to go with their recommendations, making plans to have brunch at a spot called “Charlotte’s”. Looking up directions on Google Maps, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the cafe was just 387 feet away from our current location - it was just on the other side of our block! How convenient is that?
The Instagram follower wasn’t joking with her recommendation, and we found that Charlotte’s was clearly the place to be as the place was packed with locals! Knowing that it would be well worth the wait and we stood in line for 20 minutes before a table on the outdoor patio finally opened up. Sitting down we were brought menus (which we had to translate into English using the Google Translate app) and eventually put in our order for a Croque Madame, a quiche, a basket of fresh-baked bread with their homemade jams, a cappuccino, and a tea. If you couldn’t tell from the first menu item or restaurant name, the restaurant was French cuisine and we were thrilled.
The food was fantastic. The Croque Madame was better than the one I had eaten in Paris, Lauren’s quiche was light and fluffy, the breads had amazing crust and soft centers, the jams were out of this world amazing… seriously it was that good. To make it even more amazing, it was cheap incredibly too - everything we had ordered only came to $13, easily making it the least expensive and most delicious breakfast of the trip.
Back at the apartment we worked for several more hours until dinner time. Since it was Saturday night, we decided to dress up a bit and planned to grab a drink at a bar together after dinner at the Być Może - the restaurant we had eaten the worlds best crepe at. Again, they failed to disappoint, serving us the best chicken salad and tortellini that we had eaten in a long time.
Finishing off the night, we ended up finishing off a couple beers and cocktails at the Bardziej Gastrobar just up the road from Być Może while enjoying some good conversation about our plans for the rest of this year (something that we are constantly re-evaluating and re-shaping). Sleepy and slightly buzzed we braved the short walk back to the apartment for good nights sleep.
